Everything You Need To Know About the Invictus Games 2018

At the beginning of 2014, Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games.

The event is an international sporting event for injured service men and women.

And the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will feature 500 competitors from 18 participating nations.

When is the Invictus Games opening ceremony?

The Invictus Games opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 20 at 7.30pm.

The ceremony will be held at the famous Sydney Opera House.

Prince Harry is expected to give a speech in front of the fans and athletes during the opening of this year’s games and will return for the closing ceremony on October 27.

How can I watch the Invictus Games opening ceremony?

According to the Invictus Games official website, the ceremony will be broadcast on a live stream for eager fans outside of Australia.

Why is it called the Invictus Games?

The word ‘Invictus’ is Latin for ‘unconquered’ and embodies the fighting spirit of wounded, injured and ill servicemen and women.

The event, founded by the Duke of Sussex was inspired by the Warrior Games, a similar event held in the United States.

According to the Invictus Games website, Prince Harry saw the “positive impacts sport could have on the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and ill servicemen and women.

The website wrote: “He vowed to take the idea and launch a similar event in the UK.

“The Invictus Games Foundation was established and in 2014 London hosted the inaugural Invictus Games, at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with more than 400 competitors from 13 nations.

The second Invictus Games took place in May 2016 in Orlando, Florida, and built on the excitement of the London Games with more than 500 competitors from 15 nations.

The Games then moved to Toronto in September 2017 and in 2018 the event is being held in Australia.
