FDA Introduces Nutritional Display Regulations for Restaurants

By Alex Mardikian

May 2018 heralds a landmark for digital signages in restaurants. FDA has introduced regulations that were held in abeyance for a year. The regulations require that restaurants with more than 20 branches will have to display nutritional information alongside the menu so that customers have the information for making a healthy choice. Apart from fast-food chains, this regulation covers vending machines and other chain-based locations that offer food services. These include movie theaters and malls.

With digital signage, such destinations need not worry about compliance. You don’t have to tear down existing static signage, instead you only need to update content so that the digital signage displays it. It’s cost effective and can be done repetitively.

What’s interesting is that restaurants can now use DOOH in washrooms to inform users about health benefits of the menu and the information gets reinforced by digital signages carrying nutritional information.

Digital boards in restaurants are no longer passive sources of information. VODXS lets you engage with the viewer and suggest actions to be carried out in the restaurant or online. There are opportunities to create mutually beneficial scenarios.

The digital signage can be linked to social media via VODXS-enabled faucet ads. Changes in menu can be flashed online. Specials can be promoted to a wide audience online and through apps.

Restaurants are going digital in a big way because there are benefits that accrue from becoming a part of a connected world. Digital kiosks are another tool that are boosting efficiency, dispensing information, and offering customers a better experience. Using digital signage, you can usher a patron from the driveway to the table, capture his attention in the washroom, and then impart subtle messages on the way out. The communication can continue online. You can convert one-time customers into regular patrons.
