How to Use Advanced Do Not Disturb on Apple Watch in watchOS 5

After neglecting the Do Not Disturb features on iPhone and Apple Watch for years, Apple is finally paying it some attention. The new iOS 12 and watchOS 5 updates allow you to have more control over how and when your iOS and watchOS devices can disturb you.

You can instantly disable notifications from Apple Watch using an easy method. However, the main highlight is that Do Not Disturb is no longer just an on-off switch.

Do Not Disturb now works contextually. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access the Center on your iPhone. You should see the half moon icon. Tap on this icon to bring up a menu.

A list of option will appear on your screen depending on a few factors like your device, the time and what’s in your calendar.

If you wish to enable this feature indefinitely, simply hit the On option.

However, what you’ll most likely want to do is use one of the newer options. They include:

  • On for 1 hour: This will keep Do Not Disturb enabled for 1 hour.
  • On until this evening: This will keep the feature on until sunset. This can be helpful when you are having an important afternoon meeting.
  • On until I leave: This will track your location and keep the feature enabled until you leave the current geofence area.
  • On until the end of the event: If you have an event going on and it is saved in your calendar, you will see this option. This option is the to make sure you do not receive any notifications in the middle of a meeting or important event.
