4 New Area Breweries and Pubs to Check out this Fall
Scattered throughout Philadelphia’s western suburbs, these suds-soaked spots promise top-notch imbibing.
Bald Birds Brewing Company
First-time brewpub owners Joe and Abby Feerrar “felt the Audubon area was somewhat short-listed with local breweries.” On Sept. 15, they debut their “rustic-industrial” converted 7,000 square-foot warehouse, which makes use of reclaimed wood, picnic tables and comfortable couch seating. A 42-foot concrete bar boasts 12 taps of onsite-brewed flagship pilsners, IPAs, ales and saisons courtesy of brew boss Patrick Thomas. Expect a rotating list of food trucks and family-friendly pub games, too.

Kennett Square’s newest brewpub, Braeloch Brewing, is slated to debut this fall. The creekside facility will consist of a brewery, taproom and a seasonal beer garden. An impressive two-vessel, 10-barrel system, four fermentation tanks and four brite tanks are gearing up for eight taps of seasonals, IPAs, ales and saisons. Snacks and food trucks will also be available.

Round Guys Glenside Ale House
Pouring brews at their award-winning pub in Lansdale since 2012, the team at Round Guys just opened a new location in Glenside. Slightly larger than the original and sporting an industrial-farmhouse look, the new spot blends contemporary lighting with larger windows and custom-designed tables. “We opened to an enthusiastic crowd during the Eagles season opener,” say co-owner and brewmaster Scott Rudich. Except a selection of well-rounded beers, including ales, stouts, IPAs, lagers and sours. The kitchen—manned by Phil Deaver—dishes up quasi-Mexican street food and barbecue.

Stolen Sun Craft Brewing and Specialty Coffee Roasting
“Think coffee at 7 and beer at 11,” says general manager Josh Smith of Stolen Sun Craft Brewing. It’s the newest addition in Exton from owners Jonathan and Deirdre Zangwill. The two-story former gym warehouse is roasting lush small-batch Colombian coffees in the morning and eight brewed-on-site beers from brewmaster Travis Bailey for those wanting to imbibe later in the day. Elevated food choices by chef Paris Roldan (Dilworthtown Inn) include the Exton cheesesteak, ramen and Icarus wings.
